
The gastronomy of Oaxaca was awarded as the Best Culinary Destination in Mexico at the Food and Travel Reader Awards 2024. Additionally, it received awards in three other categories, consolidating itself as one of the most important and popular destinations among national and international tourists in the country.
During the ceremony held in Mexico City, Saymi Pineda Velasco, head of the Tourism Secretariat of the Government of Oaxaca (Sectur), emphasized that these recognitions highlight the effort of the restaurant and hotel sector, as well as traditional cooks and service providers.
At the 'Food and Travel Reader Awards 2024', other outstanding establishments were also awarded, such as Crudo, named Best Restaurant in the Interior of the Republic, Otro Oaxaca, recognized as Best Urban Hotel in Mexico, and Camino Copala, awarded for being the Best Socially Responsible Tourism Proposal.
Pineda Velasco indicated to the media that these awards confirm Oaxaca as an essential culinary destination and reaffirm its position as the cultural center of Mexican gastronomy. She highlighted that this recognition is a tribute to the culinary roots of Oaxaca, passed down through generations, as well as to the flavors and knowledge inherited that continue to conquer palates around the world.
Furthermore, the official emphasized that Oaxaca is a region that takes pride in its traditions and is being increasingly recognized in the tourism markets, thanks to the drive and promotion provided by Governor Salomón Jara Cruz. The aim is for gastronomy to become a driver of economic and social transformation in the area.
